Body Bliss in Thailand – The Barai, Hua Hin

Spa wow-factor hits roof

The Barai - high wow factor

The Barai - exotic & tranquil

We all know travel writers are lucky enough to stay in some fantastic hotels and resorts. This is one hotel in Thailand where chaining yourself to the bed warrants serious consideration.

Architecturally stunning, The Barai is an exclusive eight suite hotel and spa attached to the Hyatt Regency Hua Hin.

Set in lush tropical gardens with panoramic views of the Gulf of Thailand, the spa has 18 exotic treatment rooms. It’s a tranquil and luxurious hotel to stay in, ideally located beside the long sandy beach in Hua Hin, Thailand.

Bed big enough for six

My ground floor beautifully furnished suite has a private outdoor plunge pool. The suite is spacious, the bed big enough for six.

There’s an oversize bathtub and a relaxing massage platform in the bathroom. Mmm… and a private butler too. Makes me want to move in permanently.

Taste buds undeniably tantalised

Lunch at McFarland House tantalises taste buds to distraction. This restaurant and relaxation area in a restored two-storey 19th century pavilion is tucked away from the main hotel.

Fruits and spices concoction

The tasty Thai menu is memorable – cured tuna and aloe vera; Thai spices marinated beef tenderloin; fresh spring rolls with chilli sauce; sea bass in a pandan leaf, and crispy wonton in star anis flavoured duck broth. Followed by scallops and jumbo prawns, crispy salmon, red snapper fillet, porcini ravioli, pan seared foie gras, and soy and ginger marinated Australian beef tenderloin. Then a choice of six different sorbets and ice cream.

Tranquillity Court

Numerous spa treatments during my stay roll into one immeasurably pleasurable experience. Some of the best ever.

Treatment rooms are subtly lit, each with an outdoor garden and pre-treatment bathing pool.

Enjoy a 15 minute soak in bath water infused with oils and herbs before a 90 minute Thai herbal compress spa treatment. Absolute bliss.

My mini hotel review:

This is a fabulous luxury spa hotel in Thailand – an architecturally stunning hideaway.  Ideal for a two-centre holiday: enjoy lively nightlife and a short break in Bangkok, then travel south and chill out in style in Hua Hin.

GREAT HOTEL FOR: couples, spa holidays, honeymoons, girls getaway
MUST DO: take a rickshaw ride to the Hua Hin night market
